Benefits of Small Group Fitness Classes
I am often asked what the difference is between small group fitness class and other group fitness classes such as bootcamps.
My small group classes range from 2 to 10 individuals. Whereas other fitness classes like bootcamps don’t usually have a cap on the amount of attendees, therefore you can end up with a class of 20+ attendees to 1 trainer, which can leave you feeling lost in the crowd.
Small group classes have many benefits to larger classes and for me as a trainer I design my classes to reflect these benefits to ensure my clients receive the best results from every session.
So what are some of the benefits?
Personal Attention: While regular group classes offer many benefits, the instructors are not always able to see and correct each individual class member. When there are beginners through to advanced members in the one class, there are risks towards the beginners through injury, incorrect form and weight selection and often the more advanced individuals feel left out as the instructor may have to spend more time with the newer members.
Results: When you are in a supported, safe, and friendly environment results come naturally. In smaller classes the trainer has the time to get to know you better, what your goals are and can help you get there much faster.
Variety- Because your trainer will have the opportunity to spend the time with each individual on a regular basis, they will understand what is needed to keep the classes evolving and changing whilst also knowing what each member is and isn’t capable of doing, thus preventing plateauing and boredom, which often causes people to give up and not want to attend.
Motivation: Because groups are smaller, people will get to know each other more personally and will want all their “workout buddies” to succeed. It can be a great way to meet new people and along with the personal touches from the trainer, they will also be there to help you complete the workout at hand.
Greater focus: There is no where to hide, your trainer will notice when you aren’t giving it your full potential and give you that push you might need, to get the full value of each session.
Fun: If you don’t enjoy yourself, you won’t want to come back, so ensuring classes are fun but tough enough to get results should be the ultimate aim for any trainer and is something I always strive to achieve as a trainer. Training with friends, your partner or family members is also a great way to keep your self-motivated and have a great time.
Technique: Trainers will show you the right technique in order for you to get the best possible results from every session. In your typical larger classes; however, it is not always possible to attend to everyone in the class.
Economical: Personal Training provides the most personal attention and greatest opportunity to succeed. However, small group fitness classes are the next best thing, as you still receive the attention you need, whilst keeping to your budget and having fun with others in the class.
