Christmas is my favourite time of the year. It is the time of the year were we get to take a break, indulge and celebrate with friends and family after a long year.

For me it is also a great opportunity to make some of my favourite treats. So this Christmas, I decided to put a healthy spin on some of my favourites and see what I could come up with.

Christmas balls and slices are always are great treat so I have put together a few healthier options sure to please even the fussiest crowd.

Best of all these recipes are all super simple and flexible so you can easily add our own flair.

Nutty Chocolate Heaven Slice

This one is by far my favourite! It is like a little slice of heaven in your mouth. That doesn't cost you your daily calorie count.


  • 1 Cup of Dates

  • 1 Cup of Walnuts

  • 1 Cup of Almonds

  • 1/2 Cup of Water

  • 1/3 Cup of Chia Seeds

  • 1/3 Cup of Desiccated Coconut

  • 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil

  • 2 Tablespoons of Cacao Powder

  • Some melted dark chocolate and coconut to decorate.


1. Using a food processor, add dates, walnuts and almonds and blend until you have a finely chopped mixture. Add a little water at this point to help bind the ingredients together.

2. Add chia seeds, coconut, cacao powder and coconut oil and mix until you have a smooth mixture that holds together. Add a little more water if required.

3. You should have enough mixture for a standard square cake tin or equivalent. Anything that can go in the fridge and has a small edge will work.

4. Place ingredients into lined pan, smooth out flat so the whole pan is covered.

5. Melt chocolate. I did this in the microwave in a microwave safe dish, on 30 second bursts, stirring as you go until melted.

6. Poor a thin layer of chocolate over the slice. It is really only to decorate so it doesn't need to be thick. Play around with designs or simply coat the top layer. Sprinkle with coconut or fruit if desired.

7. Put in the fridge to set.

8. Once set remove from tray and cut into slices. Could be used as bars or bit size pieces, the possibilities are endless!
